How to hook up Xfinity cable box and internet? Guide 2021-2022

ISPs like Xfinity allow their subscribers to have their equipment set up by themselves. The best part is that they try to take part in your self-installation by providing you with kits and a guidebook with detailed steps. This can make the installation process easy for you.

If you are thinking about hooking up the Xfinity cable box and unlimited wireless internet by yourself, this guide will show how it can be made possible.

Two ways to set up the Xfinity cable TV box and internet

You can either call up a tech guy to help set up the equipment or you can opt for self-installation. Both come with their own pros and cons.

Self-installation. Setting up the equipment yourself is free and you can schedule it on your own time. But you are deprived of the customer service experience for troubleshooting. This is only ideal for persons who know how the minor technical know-how.

Professional installation. With this option, you can hire a professional and experienced guy to set up the equipment. The professional is also knowledgeable about any troubleshooting that you may experience. However, the professional installation comes with its own inconvenience of setting up a schedule with the tech guy, and also an installation fee.

Setting up Xfinity equipment

If you are choosing to hook up the Xfinity cable TV box equipment or the Xfinity internet by yourself, you will be provided with a starting kit from Xfinity. You can either collect it yourself or have it delivered to your home.

Setting up Xfinity cable TV box. You will get an Xfinity cable TV box, universal remote, power cord, and two coaxial cables in the Getting Started kit.

  • Find the Cable In port in your TV box and hook up one end of the coaxial into it.
  • The other end of the coaxial goes into the wall outlet for the coaxial cable.
  • Insert one end of the other coaxial cable into the Cable Out port of your TV box.
  • The other end of the same coaxial cable goes into the Cable In your TV.
  • Finally, one end of the power cord goes into the TV box and the other end goes into the power outlet on the wall.

Now you can turn on your TV and all you need to do is activate the service. Turn on the TV and follow the steps given there to do so.

Setting up Xfinity internet. In the Xfinity internet Getting Started kit, you get xFi wireless Gateway, power, coaxial and Ethernet cables.

  • Plugin one end of the coaxial into the Gateway input port, and the other end onto the cable outlet.
  • Plugin one end of the cord into the xFi Gateway port for the power cord and the other end onto the power outlet.
  • If your Gateway doesn’t turn on automatically, you can do so by pressing the power button.

The Ethernet cable is for connecting the computer with the xFi Gateway. You can go to the Xfinity activation page to have your internet service activated.

Connecting Xfinity cable TV box and internet

You can also connect your Xfinity cable TV box to the Xfinity in-home network connection. It can be made following by following these two steps:

  • For some locations, your X1 TV box may automatically find and connect to your Xfinity network, without requesting any network information. However, if that is working for you, you can find your wireless connection in the Wi-Fi setup. When you locate your network connection, you can enter in a password to have your X1 TV box connect to the internet.
  • If you don’t prefer going wireless, you can hook the one end of the coaxial cable to the port of your modem (xFi Gateway, in this case) and the other end to the port of your cable TV box.
